An appeal To the charitable and benevolent people of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland of all classes and denominations, the appeal on behalf of the Chippewa nation of Indians of the Mississagua [sic] tribe residing at the River Credit in Canada... Dated October 19, 1844 at the Credit River.This petition of 1844 was taken to England by Peter Jones on behalf of his tribe. It is signed by members of the tribe with names and hieroglyphs. In the petition the Indians are requesting British support in establishing manual labor schools. It mentions their commitment to the Christian faith. The interpreter was David Sawyer, Ojibwa name Kezhegowinninne or Sky Man, he is also a signatory.
